Scotland on a Saturday

Today was lovely, a nice slow Saturday enjoying Scotland.
We first went into Inverness so see a classic car show on the High street. The cars where great, but I enjoyed the people best. It was great to see how people enjoy their  weekends. There were old men talking about motor bikes, families with little one (I miss my kids so much), young couples, old couples, it was all so fun.

To top it all off there where bagpipes being played all morning. This Kid was not just adorable, he was amazing on the pipes!

After Inverness we went to a little town called Fort Agustus, and on the way we saw some lovely Coos :)

The town is centered around a series of locks, which go into the Loch... I know it is not that funny but it made me giggle!

We had a great lunch while we watched boats move through the locks.

The next adventure Was going to be a hike in Glen Affric... but we couldn't find it ( I know, we are good at loosing big things like Glens and Walls). So we headed back towards Culloden because we heard there were ancient burial cairns in that area.

The cairns were really neat. Again, like Stonehenge, they just make you wonder "why". We were able to listen in to a tour that was going on, and the guide was saying that these would have take about 70 years to construct. The two with openings are perfectly aligned with the rising sun on the winter solstice and all three together mimic the alignment of Orion's belt, as do other ancient sites on 4 other continents. It just makes you wonder.

In the evening it took us a while to find a place to eat, but we finally did. The trickiest part for us on this trip seems to be getting food, ha ha. Here, you can't walk in and wait for a table, you either have a reservation or you are lucky enough to walk in and they have a table open (but that is rare). But it's hard to know where or when we will want to eat, so we often struggle when it comes dinner time. We will probably get the hang of it just before we leave :).
